Marching Band

Marching Band, Flags, Color Guard I started marching band my sophomore year in high school and I have loved it ever since. I came from an extremely competitive high school program which included local, regional and national competitions. I was a part of the color guard section and spun flag, rifle and sabre. We worked anywhere from 20 hours to 60 hours a week in the summer months. However, it was an amazing group of people and a very great program so I don't regret it for one second. On top of making lifetime friends, my favorite memory from my high school band was participating in the 2016 Parade of Roses in Pasadena, California.

I've made great friends and have been able to be apart of many awesome opportunities representing my university. On top of being the color guard captain and writing choreography, I also help manage the band's social media as well as planning and fundraising. I love working with the Wayne State marching band and it has been a great activity to participate in through college.

Cooking

I have always loved cooking ever since I can remember. But my real passion for cooking started my senior year of high school. My high school had a class that students could take that involved actually running a restaurant called The Rock Cafe that would serve staff and the public. It was probably the best class I have ever taken. As a student, you worked in a full commercial kitchen and would serve around 40-50 people a day. Students had the chance to work as prep cooks, line cooks as well as servers. With an executive chef as a teacher, I learned so much from my one year in the Rock Cafe including food safety standards, cooking techniques and how to work in a high-stress environment. Chef CoatCake, Flower decorations This class helped me get my first job as a prep cook at a local restaurant as well as other cooking jobs in the future. Although I do not want to go into food service for my career, I feel as though cooking has been an avenue for me to express myself as well as a way to make others happy. I will never stop loving cooking and I am so glad I took a leap of faith and really grew this passion for food I have.

Fostering Dogs

Dog with ToysMy family has been fostering dogs for almost 10 years now. It is something that is really important to us and that I don't think we will ever stop doing. We go through a local rescue in Ann Arbor and we usually have around one foster dog at a time on top of the four dogs we have already. We take in a variety of dogs from newborn puppies all the way to sick and elderly dogs. My family and I just really love dogs in general so this is a great way to be able to give back.puppy picture We have had many fosters come and go from our house and sometimes it is very hard to say goodbye to them. However, it is so nice to be able to see a dog who was at its lowest point, and then go to being the happiest dog on the planet with its new owner. I want to be able to help these dogs get the love and care they deserve and I think I will always continue to foster dogs for that very reason.
