ABOUT
I knew at the start of high school that I wanted to be an event planner. However, my dream was to become a wedding planner. I had always loved weddings and I was a bit of a hopeless romantic myself so wedding planning seemed like a great fit. I was a part of an Arts Academy in high school so I was able to have a senior capstone project to complete. I decided to base my project around creating and planning a theoretical wedding.
I started off by finding one of my friends who was very passionate about wedding planning as well. I used her as my model and began planning her dream wedding. Everything from the time of year, to the budget, to the color scheme was included in my project. The first piece of my project was creating a scrapbook with all of the wedding plans I had gathered from my friend. Then the next step was to partner up with a local wedding planning firm to give feedback on my work and then start shadowing them at events. The last step was shadowing an actual wedding with the local wedding planners. It was an amazing experience to see the behind the scenes of a wedding leading up from the weeks before, and then finally on the event day.
I learned a great deal from this project not only about the event planning industry, but also about myself. I learned that I was capable of a lot more than I had thought and I realized that when I am really passionate about something, I can do anything.
